If you have made an effort to spread the word about the Carbonate Network, please answer this message and describe what you did (if you sent e-mails around, printed out our flyer and distributed it at conferences, if have a link on your homepage, etc).

- The Carbonate Network flyer (at www.carbonet.net/flyer.pdf) have been printed out and distributed at the meeting "Arctic Geology, Hydrocarbon Resources and Environmental Challenges 2004" (see www.carbonet.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=10).

- An oral presentation regarding the Carbonate Network has been given at Moscow State University in April 2004.

- The flyer will also be distributed among the 86 master- and PhD-students joining the international field course Svalex (see www.carbonet.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=21) on Svalbard this fall.

In the March 2005 Issue of First Break (www.firstbreak.nl) under "EAGE News" the text titled "Students start Internet site for carbonate researchers" promotes the Carbonate Network:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Copy of the text from First Break:

Students start Internet site for carbonate researchers

Bjarne Rafaelsen is an EAGE student member who with Andreas Olaus Harstad (University of Oslo) has started a Carbonate Network, an international web-based network for scientific and industry carbonate workers. In its first year the site has garnered 100 members worldwide and even more people receive the monthly e-mail with carbonate related news. The network is run on a purely voluntary, unfunded basis.

Bjarne Rafaelsen, a PhD student at the University of Tromsø, says the Carbonate Network aims to be a scientific forum where questions and problems related to carbonates can be exchanged. There is a homepage (www.carbonet.net) and an online Carbonate discussion forum (www.carbonet.net/forum). The homepage contains a short presentation of the different members participating in the carbonate network (their field of expertise, scientific interests and contact information). The aim with is to stimulate an increased exchange of knowledge between carbonate researchers from different geological institutions and to form a forum where carbonate-related aspects can be discussed. A person may be interested in good references related to a specific topic, want to discuss specific problems with someone, have questions for people experienced in a certain method or technique, or wish to share information.

For membership (free) to the Carbonate Network, contact bjarne.rafaelsen@ig.uit.no.
