A PhD project is available at the Cretaceous Research Centre (CRC) at the Geological Institute, University of Copenhagen, Denmark.

The objective of the project is to undertake a seismic geomorphological and palaeogeographical analysis of the Cretaceous chalk in the Central North Sea integrated in a sequence stratigraphic framework in order to generate an improved understanding of the depositional dynamics of the Cretaceous chalk. Major depositional features or elements should be identified and mapped, relating both to bottom currents and other processes of reworking. Observations should where possible be related to the evolution of the basin palaeobathymetry and tectonic events. The study areas include the north and central part of the Danish North Sea, as well as parts of the UK West Central Graben area, with a particular focus on the J-Ridge area. The reflection seismic interpretation should be conducted on both normal and inverted seismic data, using a spectrum of analytical tools such as relative impedance, spectral decomposition, structural attributes and high density velocity analysis.

A close collaboration between this project and a just started project concerning characterization of depositional processes of reworked chalk is expected.

Guidelines for completing Ph. D. studies at the Natural Sciences Faculty can be seen at www.nat.ku.dk. The applicant will be hired and paid by Cretaceous Research Centre as a Ph. D. student under terms agreed between the ministry of finance and the central organisation of Academic personnel.
As an Equal Opportunities Employer, The University welcomes applications from suitably qualified people from all sections of the scientific community, regardless of age, race, religion, gender or ethnic background.
Candidates hold a Masters degree in Earth Science (geology/geophysics) or similar relevant areas, and have an interest in reflection seismic interpretation, sedimentology and stratigraphy.
The candidate should send an application by email with his/her curriculum vitae, publication list and relevant recommendations as well as a short description of possible scientific interests.

The application should be sent to:
