Mediumfjellet

Above: The Triassic and Late Permian (Gipshuken and the silicified Kapp Starostin formation) succession. Intrusions of diabas into the Kapp Starostin formation is of Jurassic / Cretaceous age and are visible as dark bands cross-cutting the stratigraphy. Tertiary thin-skinned deformation deformed the Permian and Triassic succession, and during this event the Permian gypsum served as a decollement zone. Two fault propagation folds are seen, one overlying the other. White dot and arrow indicate where and in which direction the picture below was taken (August 28th 2001).
